This dish is a pride of Thailand – very common and one of the most famous Asian soups. It is spice-wise not overly hot, but plenty with sour.


  • 300 g oyster mushroom
  • 1 lemongrass (crushed)
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves
  • 5 sprigs cilantro (chopped)
  • 2-3 chili peppers
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 lime
  • 1 teaspoon Nam Prig Pow
  • 3 cups water


Step 1

Crush the lemon grass with a meat tenderizer. Tie the lemon grass and drop it into a sauce pan of water. When they are near to boil, put washed mushrooms in it. Pull the kaffir lime leaves from their stems and drop in the sauce pan. Add nam prig pow and turn off the heat.

Step 2

Crush chili pepper and place into the serving bowl. Add fish sauce and lime.

Pour soup into the bowl, sprinkle with chopped cilantro and serve while it is hot.
